Special Education Tutoring

Elementary Tutoring

$75

Phonics

Help improve your child’s ability to read and write by using phonics strategies to strengthen phonological awareness, decoding, and encoding.

Math

Math is hard and can lead to shutdowns and anxiety in students. During these sessions, we work on math strategies, math facts, and fun activities that lead to building confidence and student perseverance.

Reading Comprehension

Remembering what you read can be very difficult especially when you are still working hard to decode what you are reading. In this session, we will work on strategies to answer comprehension questions and analyze text.

Executive Functioning

$90

Does your child struggle with time management or getting started with their homework? Do they avoid tasks or wait to the very last moment to start something? Do they not complete the work at all? Is it an argument to get them to sit down and do their work? Can they never find their assignments? Are papers just crumpled in their backpack? I might be able to help! Set up a free consultation call to see if we would be a good match.

Writing

$125

Brainstorming, Organizing, Drafting, Editing, and Final drafts are a lot of steps for writing that most students tend to skip over as they feel overwhelmed by the bigness of it all. They go right for drafting not realizing that the other steps help make the writing easier, clearer, and better. I can work with students on specific assignments for their classes and create supplemental materials to help them through the writing process. If interested in my support please contact me for a consultation prior to the next paper being assigned so we can discuss my strategies and help.

Social Skills and Friendship Groups

Social Skills Groups Kindergarten - 5th Grade

$65

Does your child need help playing games and interacting with others? For all grade levels, it is hard to converse with others about subjects you are not interested in or know nothing about. It is also harder for kids to engage with one another outside of technology. Using board games and other tasks we will engage in activities to meet the group where they are and increase their social skills, social awareness, and comfortableness within a group. Each client will have unique goals they work on each week.

For ages 10-13.

1v1 sessions to work on areas of deficit or skill concerns.

  • Cube Session

The OmniCube is a play based therapy device used to give children movement/cognitive experiences. It is effective in improving bilateral integration midline orientation and motor planning needed for reading and writing.

    Coming in May!

  • Early Learning Skills: Body Readiness

    Recommended for 3-5 year olds

This group session helps young learners begin to regulate their body and become ready for school expectations.

  • Writing as a Whole Body Activity

    Grades 1 -3 recommended

When it comes to writing, postural control plays a crucial role in enabling children to maintain the necessary stability and positioning required for effective and comfortable writing. Good postural control provides a stable base, allowing the child to use their hand and fingers more effectively for the fine motor skills required in writing. Poor posture, like slumping or improper positioning, can create tension in the body, affecting the precision needed to form letters or words.

  • Writing While Thinking

    Grades 2-5 Recommended

Many students struggle with the act of brainstorming or creating content while also going through the mechanics of the writing process. When students engage in activities that require mental focus (cognitive processing) and fine motor skills many students struggle to produce independent written work. This group will challenge your child’s brain to process information faster and with more coordination resulting in improved organization of thought and work production.

  • Neurodiversity: Whole-body Regulation Group

This group is for both clients and parents. Grades 3-5 recommended.

Engaging in activities that promote neuro-regulation is crucial for children to gain independence on how to regulate their own systems. This group will focus on exercises, activities, and breathing activities that will help each client learn what works best for them.

With successful implementation and work at home, this program could help improve executive function, sleep, self-control, social interactions, and intensity of mood swings. Please note this does not replace any Counseling or Psychiatry care

Parents each week in their group will have time to discuss experiences with other parents and to learn about the techniques they are using within the group to better implement at home.

Who We Are

Kristina Medina

Owner & Special Education Teacher

I have been in education for over 15 years. I am a Connecticut-certified Special Education Teacher K-12, a Social Studies Teacher for Middle and High School, and a College Adjunct Professor in the communications department.

My family moved to California in June 2024 and I have my Special Education Certification here in California.

I love working at all levels of education and helping students when they struggle.

My goal is to work closely with each student on individualized material to fit their needs and abilities.

I am a fierce advocate for my students and will work collaboratively with parents to build successful habits that will continue to help after tutoring sessions are completed.

I also have a strong personal connection to my work that led me into this field. I believe working with parents and supporting them through this process is just as important as the work we do with the student. Open communication and support is the center of my business model.

All together we can inspire your student to achieve at the highest level.
